Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a very versatile German poet who tried his hand at various styles of poetry. In his early innovative years, he wrote primarily in the style of Sturm und Drang, characterized by its emotionality and proximity to nature. Later he also turned to classicism and wrote more relaxed, graceful and balanced. His poems are still of great importance today and influence many poets worldwide. Some of his most celebrated poems are, for example, "Wanderer's Night Song", "Erlkönig" or "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". These works are characterized by their poignancy, powerful language and musical rhythm. Goethe often used poetic forms such as sonnets or odes to create his lyrical works. All in all, one can say that Goethe's style of poetry is unique and multi-faceted and that he has constantly developed further in his life.
